I call this Orange Tahini sauce my Coney Sunset sauce because it has that blissful, warm tropical feeling of the orange sun setting over the ocean. Lately I’ve been having so much fun photographing the Coney Island Sunsets and posting them! Be my friend on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram for more sunset visuals to coincide with this recipe! I’ve included a few in this recipe for culinary inspiration!
This sauce is super easy, quick, and makes any dish so incredibly blissful! I could eat this everyday (and sometimes I do!) and swoon with delight every time! I usually pour it over whole grain brown rice (I love the Lundberg Jubilee) with steamed or stir fried vegetables. It’s especially amazing over steamed broccoli. Seriously… Even if you aren’t a big fan of broccoli, try it! This sauce could make just about anything delicious!
2 tbs unhulled Sesame Seeds toasted
1/2 cup Tahini
2 tbs Honey
3 tbs Tamari (or soy sauce if you can’t find Tamari)
1 tbs lemon juice
1/2 cup orange juice
2 scallions minced
Try to use fresh squeezed orange juice but if you don’t have access to any, just use regular store bought OJ!
If you aren’t familiar with Tahini (puree of roasted sesame seeds), it’s great to have around. It’s used in making hummus and all sorts of amazing sauces! My general rule is to always buy the brand with the most middle eastern looking packaging and the least hippie looking. I usually buy Joyva brand. You can usually find it in nicer grocery stores near the peanut butter!
First warm the sesame seeds in a skillet for a few minutes until golden and fragrant. Combine all the other ingredients except the sesame seeds and scallions.
Leftover are great to bring to work for lunch and reheat. However, for refrigerating this sauce to reheat later, it’s best to keep the scallions and sesame seeds in the side so they don’t get soggy! Just sprinkle them over the top before you serve!
I also add a bit of red pepper for a little hotness… But I add red pepper to basically everything!
You will love this sauce! It’s super addictive!
